Hawse Pieces is a ship building term for the timbers located next to the knighthead, which are adjacent to the stem and apron. The stringers under this table's top act as integrated subsurface supports and take inspiration from the hawse timbers, which act as stiffeners to the outer planking of a ships ship hull.

A version of this table was originally designed for BLUR Workshop, an architecture firm in Atlanta, Georgia. This early design was

sized-based on the need to stamp and seal a set of drawings in a fully open position. As a result, the table will perfectly fit one open 36x48 drawing set (72x48 fully open), and still allow two people at each end. Although BLUR did not proceed with fabrication, a private client commissioned us to design, price and time the fabrication for two similar tables, one being inside and one outside. As this client loved the original table it became a major influence for the final design. Our client was also working through the design of a series of small acrylic glowing boxes which were going to be mass produced yard decorations. We used these to light our scene/photos.
