RETAIL AS A COMMUNAL ICON
Finca is a startup coffee company who asked us to produce two different prototypes for movable/temporary coffee kiosks. This effort was to help Finca develop their design language and marketing philosophy as well as test cost for initial company launch locations. This is the first of the two designs. A secondary effort was to assist in the design of their logo.
This design is communicated through a language that is view specific. When viewed from the long sides the single material creates a display of form while the front and back open to reveal an entirely different spatial quality which is emphasized primarily by the use of materials, colors and patterns.
Designed as a single unit that will fit into a short flat bed truck or enclosed tractor trailer, this retail instillation serves to create a space that is both minimal and functional while still becoming a destination through its form, use of materials, and overall spatial experience for the customer. The structure is intended to be able to be fabricated off site using typical materials, such as bendable plywood, 2x2’s and 1/16” aluminum sheet. Both the aluminum and structural ribs can all be cut on a CNC which will reduce construction time. As a result, duplication is easy even if it is done in another location. If more work space is necessary, cutting additional ribs will make it longer. The rear of the space is dedicated to the necessary water tanks and pumps.
